Blondie’s song runs round in my head as I climb the ladder. It seems apropos somehow. ‘One way or another I’m gonna getcha, getcha, getcha’ she says. Easier said than done. Fourteen near misses: a push at the railway station, poisoned porridge, slippery soles, an exploding car and lightning strike. The list goes on. Actually the last was more an act of God than a deliberate aim. But tonight’s the night. Never send a girl out to do a woman’s job is my motto. We’ve got a date on top of the ladder at eight.
My visiting granddaughters are taking up most of my time, so I’m a bit behind in my Friday Fictioneers stories. But if you’ve got the time go and visit Friday Fictioneers on
http://rochellewisofffields.wordpress.com/ and join in the fun.
Reads like another good start for a short story.
Thanks for the thought, Bruce. It took at least a decade and a half to help Helena get off that staircase. But it’s definitely a thought. I’ll put this one in my ideas drawer to mature. Maybe only a decade this time. 🙂
Dear Mary,
Now I’ve got the song running through my head.
shalom,
Rochelle
Yes, sorry about that Rochelle.
I’ve only ever heard the first couple of lines of that song. I thought it was a love story, but when I checked out the lyrics I found them most aggressive.
I went to You Tube and listened to the whole thing. 😉
Well, I did warn you. Go listen to some Connie Frances now.
As soon as I saw your title, Mary, I thought of the Blondie song. You story works well with the picture for the week.
Hope you’re still having fun. I have just a little over a month before my two weeks of fun starts! 🙂
I am having fun, Maddie. I love being a grandma. You enjoy little Maddie. Happy times.
Hosting visiting 11-year-old nephew this weekend so I sympathise!
It’s two weeks for me of term holiday. I find that although I can physically multi-task, my mental faculties are totally stuffed. (How was your weekend?)
Fascinating!
Thanks. 🙂
This is a woman who doesn’t give up! As for you, enjoy that granddaughter time and the rest of your weekend.
janet
Yes, she’s far more determined and aggressive than I am. PS, thanks for the kind thoughts but it’s not the weekend but two weeks of enjoyable though exhausting term holiday. Mixed emotions about the end of this week. 🙂
